Preparing Your House for Halloween
One of the many perks of home ownership is the option to decorate your own home however you see fit. However, if you belong to a Homeowner’s Association some restrictions may apply. Be sure to check with your HOA to see what decoration regulations they may have.As Halloween approaches, many families across the country are trying to work out the scariest ways to decorate their homes for the holidays. Whether you are planning a party or merely want to give trick-or-treaters a fright, consider some of these simple tips.
- Start looking early. If you prefer to purchase decorations, stores will have larger stocks and lower prices weeks before Halloween, as compared to the last minute before. If you want to create your own decorations, you will need plenty of time to brainstorm and hunt down the best materials.
- For your Jack O'Lantern needs, consider using a hard shelled gourd in the place of a pumpkin. This will dry out rather than rot, allowing you to re-use your favorite designs. They also stand up to abuse from kids playing pranks.
- Choose a theme. Decorations centered around a coherent plot will create a much better effect than randomly selected skeletons, monsters, ravens, etc.
Halloween Themes
You’ll probably want to design your own decoration theme, but if you're stuck, here are a few suggestions to get you started:- Abandoned Victorian insane asylum
- Civil war graveyard
- UFO landing site
- Post-zombie apocalypse
- Battle of the ghost pirates
