Austin Music Venues
Austin is known as the live music capital of the world and earned its reputation, or title, based on the huge number of venues located throughout the city that are open to allowing musicians and bands the opportunity to play live in front of a music-loving audience.
Two of the biggest music events are the Austin City Limits music festival and the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival. While Austin City Limits utilizes Zilker Park and little else of the city, South by Southwest utilizes a wide variety of the downtown area’s best locations to hold a small concert.
While Austin may lack a Madison Square Garden or similar venue, it does have a huge number of smaller venues that provide a much more intimate concert-going experience. Not only do the venues available provide greater access to the musicians, they also provide a much greater variety of genres than larger venues.
The large number of small venues allows concert-goers and music lovers everywhere to be exposed to up and coming artists that might not get a shot at the largest venues available.
The small venues frequently provide better acoustics than the large, multi-purpose venues do. The venues are designed for music of some sort. The big, domed multi-purpose venues frequently have echo problems or dead spots. They also have problems with sight lines.
