    Getting to Know New Neighbors

For some people, one of the most exciting things about moving is the chance to explore a new place and meet plenty of new people. Others fully intend to introduce themselves after moving in, but then find themselves simply too distracted by work and life. Other people may simply feel shy or uncertain about how to go about meeting new people. If any of these apply to you, consider the following tips for easy ways to introduce yourself to new neighbors.

Enjoy a nice walk, especially in the evening when people are likely to be home. There are plenty of advantages to this: you can explore your new neighborhood, get some exercise, and meet other people who are walking their pets or enjoying the weather.

Make small gestures. People who are especially busy or introverted may not like the idea of directly introducing themselves to many people in the neighborhood. It is perfectly all right to leave a quick note at your neighbors' home, introducing yourself. You may want to include a small gift as well, such as a homemade treat.

Host a get-together. Don't worry; this does not need to be a fancy or complicated affair. Simply asking a few neighbors over to enjoy a few drinks or play a game can lead to a fun evening, and maybe even new friendships. If you want to minimize fuss and expense, you could even schedule a potluck in a nearby park.

Of course, there's nothing wrong with the old fashioned method of approaching a neighbor, introducing yourself, and shaking hands. Whatever methods you use, getting to know your neighbors is generally well worth the effort.
