    Shopping in Austin

Austin is home to an expanding network of shopping options. It used to be that a person living in the downtown area had to go to one of two malls that offered largely the same stores. Now, however, there are a variety of indoor and outdoor shopping malls in addition to the trendy boutiques downtown and on South Congress.

Of the indoor malls, Barton Creek Square has the most upscale. The complex has a movie theater, and another one across the street, and features anchors like Nordstrom’s, Macy’s, and Dillard’s. The non-anchor stores include J. Crew, Williams Sonoma, Coach, Steve Madden, Armani Exchange, and Pottery Barn. In addition to the numerous shops, the mall has a variety of restaurants from sit down to fast food.

The Domain is one of Austin’s newer outdoor shopping experiences. In addition to offering a huge variety of stores, it also features residences, restaurants, and will be a stop on the new rail line. There are currently additions planned which will add Saks Fifth Avenue and Nordstrom’s to the already impressive list of stores at the mall. The current anchors are Neiman Marcus and Macy’s but other stores include Tiffany & Co., Barney’s Co-Op, and Calypso.

Located closer to Lake Travis and designed to offer an outdoor shopping experience to individuals living further from the city’s center, The Hill Country Galleria offers a much wider variety of stores. In addition to the traditional mall shops, it has a Barnes & Noble serving as an anchor.
