    Texas Vineyards

Everyone has heard of California’s wine country and how wonderful the wines are. What many don’t realize is that Texas has its own wine country. While not quite as praised as California’s, Texas’ wine country produces some very good wines for a fraction of the California price.

One of the benefits of the Texas wine country is that it has much cheaper land. In general, land in Texas is much cheaper than that of California. That gives any winery or vineyard lower operating costs from the get go.

The next benefit is that the Texas growing season is longer. This means that a vineyard can, potentially, have multiple crops of grapes come through the vines. This means that the vineyard can produce more wine than the California vineyards are able to produce.

If those aren’t excellent reasons to try some Texas wines, the fact that they’re in one’s own backyard should tip the scales in their favor. The areas surrounding Austin are home to a large number of vineyards all offering wine tastings and direct sales of their wines. Some have festivals devoted to their wine or other products at various times throughout the year.

One of the vineyards in the Austin area has opened a restaurant at The Triangle. Mandola’s is an adorable restaurant offering indoor and outdoor dining as well as a market for the vineyard’s wines and other Italian imports.
