Things to Do With Your Dog
Everyone knows New Yorkers are nuts about their dogs and can, and do, take them everywhere that they go. It is not unusual to walk into a store and see a person with a leash attached to a pet and not necessarily a dog. What many people don't realize is that Austin is also quite dog friendly.
While not quite as dog friendly, or dog obsessed, as New York, Austin still provides many options for people who cannot bear to live without their perfect pooch for more than 10 minutes. Unfortunately for Austinites, those who want to take their dog to the mall with them will be out of luck. In terms of stores, Austin is not very dog friendly at all.
Fortunately, it more than makes up for it with a huge list of restaurants which allow dogs to dine with their owners at the outdoor tables. Some of the accommodating restaurants include:
- P Terry's Burger Stand
- Austin Java
- Opal Divines
- Moonshine Patio Bar & Grill
- Artz Rib House
This, obviously, is not a complete list of restaurants that are welcoming to four legged friends. Before going to an outdoor restaurant, it is always a good idea to call ahead to confirm that a dog is ok. Some restaurants will provide a water bowl and maybe even a snack for a pampered pooch.
The majority of Austin's parks will at least allow dogs in. Some are off-leash and allow the dogs to go nuts without the impediment of a leash. Swimming areas are frequently open to dogs as well.
