There is so much to do while researching, exploring, and selecting a new home that people often don't have time to consider what will come next: packing and moving. The Austin realtors of the Carvajal Group want every step you take as you transition into a new home to be as easy and stress-free as possible. Towards that end, here is a quick list of easy tips to make moving a little easier:
- Color code. You can purchase cardboard boxes in solid colors, or simply mark the boxes you got free from the grocery store with colored permanent markers. A simple and easy system - green for the kitchen, blue for the living room, and so on - will make the process of sorting and unpacking your things go much more smoothly.
- Sort before you pack. The temptation to throw items into boxes as you grab them may be strong, but resist it. Sorting your possessions - placing the controllers with the video game, the pillows with the sheets, etc - will make both packing and unpacking less of a headache.
- Place important things in distinctive containers. Purses, suitcases, backpacks, etc can come in very handy here. It will be so much easier to find your toothpaste, the book you're currently reading, your child's favorite toy, etc if it is not buried in yet another cardboard box.
- Be realistic about what you need to bring. Sort through everything and decide what really needs to come with you. Try to resist the "you never know what you'll need" mentality; there really are some things that you do not need or that can easily be replaced.
