Austin Real Estate: Austin's Historical Sites

Austin is not only home to modern artistic and technological innovations; it also has a rich past and many fascinating historical markers. Whether you are planning a move to Austin or have lived here for years, you should take the opportunity to visit some of these famous historical sites.

    The Texas State Capitol

Construction of this impressive building was completed in 1888 from donated Texan Pink Granite, known these days as "sunset red." There are many things to see in the capitol and surrounding area, including but not limited to:

    • The Texas legislature
    • Historical archives
    • The Story of Texas museum

    The Paramount Theatre

This impressive building has stood on Congress Avenue for over 100 years. Originally built for vaudeville and variety shows, it is now host to concerts, classic films, shows for children, film premieres, and more. Do not pass up an opportunity to see the Paramount's beautiful interior, or to enjoy the wide variety of talented groups and individuals performing there.

Zevala State Archives and Library Building

For dedicated Texas history buffs, it is hard to imagine a more useful resource. This white square building may not look like much from the outside, but the interior houses a massive collection of historical documents and records.

One of its best known features is the genealogy section, which features incredibly detailed and orderly historical records going back for centuries. If you have always wanted to know more about your family's roots, this may be your best starting point.
