Austin Tenants' Council
Tenants and landlords often have problems, and landlords are often the cause of the problems. Landlords may not take appropriate care of the rental property, allowing problems to worsen over time. They may ignore tenants' complaints about things that need attention. They also may not give back tenants' deposits after the tenants have moved out.
Usually, tenants feel helpless in the face of the landlord, whom the tenants owe money to because of the lease. That is why there are organizations to help tenants resolve disputes with landlords. The Austin Tenants’ Council is one such organization.
The Austin Tenants' Council offers many services to help tenants. There is telephone counseling as well as in-person counseling. The Tenants' Council also provides mediation services as well as help in securing rights in regards to fair housing. Because there are so many Hispanics in Austin, the Tenants’ Council also provides assistance in Spanish.
Another one of the major services that the Austin Tenants' Council offers is that it helps tenants understand leases and the property codes of the state of Texas. Moreover, the Council provides a variety of resources for tenants. Some such resources are brochures, forms, and newsletters.
The Austin Tenants' Council is a private, non-profit organization that is solely dedicates to helping tenants resolve problems related to their status as tenants.
