    Best Times to Change Schools

As we approach April, children’s thoughts across the country are turning increasingly towards the much anticipated end of the school year and summer vacation. Summer vacation means an entire block of time not dominated by going to school and homework. It means summer camps and vacations and all sorts of fun activities. What many don’t realize is that moving during summer vacation is not necessarily the best thing for children.

When children move during summer vacation, they are forced to spend a lot of time with their parents and siblings. They will start school without a group of friends and will likely not have had much time over the summer vacation to make a set of friends. This is because during the break, many kids are scattered to the four corners of the earth with all of their summer activities. They are not around and are not forced to spend time with any new children to the area during school.

Because of the loneliness that can result from a summer move, many parents are now opting to move towards the end of the school year or in the middle of a year rather than during the summer. Moving towards the end of the school year allows a child to have the maximum amount of time with his or her friends from the old school but also allows the child to start making new friends immediately. There isn’t a summer vacation-long delay between the two sets.

While moving at the end of the calendar year may seem awkward or hard, it can offer the same benefits. Being alone for a winter break is not nearly as big of a deal as being alone for two or more months.
