    Preparing your Home for Thanksgiving

Hosting a Thanksgiving dinner is the perfect opportunity to show off your new Austin home. Of course it can also be the perfect opportunity for anxiety and stress, especially if you are expecting a lot of guests or if any guests will be staying overnight. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to help minimize stress so you can truly enjoy the holiday.

Prepare in advance. Don’t make the mistake of just saying "I'll get around to it." Prepare a list of steps you need to take, including taking an inventory of silverware and other necessities, and cleaning the house. Try to complete your list on the weekend before your guests arrive.

Be sure to keep an eye towards safety while you decorate. If you light candles, make sure there are no flammable materials near them and that they are not left unattended. If small children will be attending and your home is not currently baby proof, make sure that sharp and/or delicate objects are beyond a child's reach.

Cook as much as you can the day before. Foods like mashed potatoes, casseroles, and pies will usually keep well in the refrigerator overnight. Having less to prepare on Thanksgiving Day will help it go much more smoothly.

If you are having overnight guests, stock up the little things they may need. Having extra toothbrushes, towels, soap, or deodorant can make guests feel welcome, and make their vacation easier if they forgot to pack any of these.
