Texas ranks No. 13 on most friendly state taxes index

October 31st, 2010

The Tax Foundation, a Washington, D.C.-based think tank and advocacy group, released its new ranking of the most business-friendly state tax systems this Tuesday.

Texas fell three places to No. 13 after a No. 11 finish last year. Indiana, Washington, and Virginia each moved up the ranking to cause this displacement.

According to the index, states are rated on how friendly their tax codes are to business and economic activity. To do this it takes factors such as the complexity of the tax code, the number of specialized exemption, unemployment taxes, property taxes, etc into account.

South Dakota retained its No. 1 position this year.
