Austin Ranked 13th Most Sustainable City

October 9th, 2008

In sustainlane.com’s survey of the United States’ fifty most populous cities, Austin TX has ranked #13 for long-term environmental sustainability, by far the highest ranking among Texan cities. The survey included many different factors such as traffic congestion, water cleanliness, emphasis on green policies, and use of public transportation. Portland, OR, was determined to be our nation’s most sustainable city, while Mesa, AZ, came in last. Austin scored highly for air quality, the local government’s climate change policy, city planning and land use, and green building. The local government plans to make even more improvements to the city’s sustainability plans, including the installation of a light rail system, that will help to make the city’s environmental scores even better.
