Should You Be Around for your Open House?

November 13th, 2008

When your house is placed for sale, it is up to you whether you want to greet potential buyers yourself or plan a day out while your real estate agent leads the tour. There pros and cons to either choice that should be considered. For example, consider giving your own tours. You have more detailed information about your house and your neighborhood, so you may be able to answer questions more thoroughly. On the other hand, your presence could make buyers feel rushed or pressured; this will encourage them to leave as quickly as possible.

Being away during your open house may induce some anxiety, as you won’t know buyers’ reactions right away and your realtor may not be answering every question the way you would prefer. On the other hand, you could also just put those issues out of your mind; if you have hired a good real estate agent, you can trust him or her to sell your home persuasively. Besides, hovering around your real estate agent and elaborating on his or her answers will just make buyers nervous.
