Austin LBJ SunsetAustin, Texas. Many people say it’s the best place on earth, but some may ask the simple question- why? I just recently moved to Austin and have already discovered why people fall in love with this city, it has so much to offer!

Austin is known as the live music capital of the world and is home to events such as South By Southwest(SXSW) and Austin City Limits. Every year people flock to Austin to be a part of SXSW, which is one of the largest music festivals in the world. It is four days of non-stop music performances as well as up and coming film talent. Austin is also home to a free concert music series, Blues on the Green, which has been going strong since 1991. For anyone who loves to enjoy live music and warm summer nights, this is the place to be! For those looking for music elsewhere in Austin, you don’t need to go far because there are over 100 music venues within the city limits. Some of the legendary music venues include places like Stubb’s, Antone’s, Continental Club, and Cactus Cafe.

Another high attraction to Austin is that the city is very health conscious. With theBat Colony Austin exception of eight places, all Austin bars and restaurants are 100% smoke free. Austin was also voted the second most walkable city in the U.S. by Prevention Magazine and offers an abundance of outdoor activities. Town Lake, which is surrounded by hiking and jogging trails, offers Austinites the chance to kayak or canoe. Town Lake is also home to the largest bat colony in North America. Each night from mid-March to November, people invade the Congress Avenue Bridge to watch the bats emerge and cover the night sky.

The lakes in Austin offer vacationers as well as Austinites a place to escape and enjoy the outdoors, but Austin has more to offer. Hamilton Pool Nature Preserve is 232 acres of protected natural habitat that offers visitors a place to picnic and swim. The jade green pool is surrounded by huge slabs of limestone and even features 50-foot waterfall flows. Barton Springs, which is located in Zilker Park, is also a popular destination for those seeking something other than the lakes. One of Austin’s popular landmarks, Barton Springs features a natural rock and gravel bottom and is open to swimmers year round.

It’s no wonder why so many businesses and organizations choose Austin as a home. With its active lifestyle, outdoor living, restaurants, arts and entertainment facilities, Austin will continue to draw great people.
