Lake Austin Real Estate
Found in west Austin, Lake Austin is a reservoir on the Colorado River formed in 1939 by the construction of the Tom Miller Dam by the Lower Colorado River Authority. Aside from its practical uses as a flood control mechanism and alternative power generator, Lake Austin is also one of Austin's most popular outdoor attractions.Due to its elongated shape, Lake Austin is ideal for a variety of motorized water sports, including wakeboarding, water skiing, and boating. Boat rentals and riverboat tours are also available for those without their own equipment. Water sport enthusiasts can be found on the lake in all seasons, enjoying the water, which stays cool year-round. Fishermen may be glad to hear that Lake Austin has been stocked with largemouth bass, catfish, and sunfish for the purpose of promoting recreational fishing
Due to the lake's popularity, many non-aquatic attractions have sprung up on its banks. The Hula Hut, a lively restaurant and bar located right on shore, is just one of the many businesses which thrive near the water. Other notable nearby attractions include the Mayfield Preserve, a 22-acre wildlife preserve boasting tame deer and exotic peacocks, and the Laguna Gloria, an early 20th-century mansion that is now part of the Austin Museum of Art. Exhibits of all kinds can also be found on the edges of Lake Austin.
The real estate market has also responded to the popularity of Lake Austin. Many nearby neighborhoods offer residents easy access to both downtown Austin and the lakeshore - an attractive prospect for people on a home search.
Residential neighborhoods near Lake Austin include: Tarrytown, Lake Pointe, Bella Lago, and Highland Park. For more information on these areas or real estate listings in Austin, contact an Austin realtor from the Carvajal Group by clicking here.
